Lovers Key was once not accessible by car or foot, only by boat. As the story goes it has gotten its name from the lovers that traveled there for the beautiful, peaceful and remote beach. Nowadays it’s easily reachable by car and it’s one of four islands that together form the Lovers Key State Park.
Visiting Lovers Key just south of Fort Myers Beach
Lovers Key is a perfect very short trip away from Fort Myers Beach in the sourthern direction. Fort Myers Beach is lively with a lot of restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. Lovers Key is a welcome contrast to that.
From the parking lot there is a boardwalk to reach the beach. Well on the beach there’s nothing else than the sand, sun and waves to distract you. The beach is around two miles long so you should never have any problems finding a nice spot.
Lovers Key Beach is more than just a beach
If you want to have a break from relaxing on the beach there are nice hiking trails throughout the state park. The waters of the area are home to animals like dolphins, manatees, spoonbills and eagles.
The road connection to the beautiful key has been in place for a long time now. Still the reasons that once took the lovers there remain. It’s hard to find a more beautiful beach in such a relaxing setting.
And for everyone in the area it’s very convenient to have two beaches, Lovers Key Beach and Fort Myers Beach, for two different moods so close to each other.
You find more information about Lovers Key on the official site for Lovers Key State Park.
