Mid Island
Key Largo welcomes visitors to the pristine Florida Keys region. As the northernmost major island, with many gorgeous hotels, it functions as the gateway to the Florida Keys.
At 33 miles (53 km) in length, Key Largo is the longest island in the entire island chain. From the beginning of the Overseas Highway and all the way down to the island’s southern end you find great places to stay.
But the hotels and resorts Mid Island give you the ultimate access to one of the biggest attractions in the area, John Pennekamp State Park. At Mile Marker 102.5, you find the entrance to the unique undersea park.
If you plan to take a day trip to the Everglades, it’s also extra convenient to stay at accommodation close to the Overseas Highway’s start. Yes, Key Largo is also one of the best places to stay near Everglades National Park.

South End
At Key Largo’s southern tip, you find the peaceful community Tavernier. It’s another great option for where to stay when visiting Key Largo.
Here, you’re slightly further away from the mainland and John Pennekamp State Park. But the distances are far from huge in Key Largo, and the Overseas Highway makes it easy to get around between places to stay in the Florida Keys.
From the southern tip of Key Largo, it’s just 12 miles (19 km) and 20 minutes to the John Pennekamp State Park. And in the other direction, just cross Tavernier Creek to get to Plantation Key, the first island of the Islamorada region.

Both Mid Island and South End are great options for where to stay in Key Largo. From the first mile of the Overseas Highway to the last, you find stunning hotels and resorts to choose from. No matter where in Key largo you stay, you find beautiful surroundings and the signature Florida Keys vibe.
Above all, there are no bad areas to stay in Key Largo. Still, Mid Island gives you the best access to John Pennekamp State Park. And the further south you stay in Key Largo, the easier it gets to reach Islamorada and the rest of the Florida Keys.
North Key Largo is the part of the island that’s located north of the Overseas Highway. The area has to a large extent remained undeveloped, and there are no hotels in North Key Largo.
The hotel rates tend to be similar in Key West and Key Largo. On both islands, you also find everything from luxury resorts to more low-key places to stay.
Key Largo is certainly a great place for a relaxing getaway. Its tropical environment, blue waters and laid-back ambience makes it one of the most appreciated South Florida destinations.
